On Tuesday 27 January 2026 the Council adopted the Maidenhead Town Centre Shopfront Supplementary Planning Document (SPD).
The SPD provides an update to guidance contained in the Maidenhead Business and Shop Front Design Guide, dated August 2013, and supports policy TR3 of the Borough Local Plan. This guidance applies only where a new or replacement shopfront requires planning permission.
As part of our commitment to revitalising the town centre, the SPD aims to:
- Promote attractive, well-designed shopfronts that enhance the character of Maidenhead.
- Support economic vitality by encouraging designs that improve the shopping experience.
- Preserve and celebrate heritage features, particularly within conservation areas.
- Ensure accessibility and safety for all users of the town centre.
- Guide planning decisions with clear, practical design principles.
The SPD is a material consideration in the determination of planning applications.
