What is happening to the Brett Foundation?

We’re happy to help the Brett Foundation identify suitable alternative vacant premises in the town centre and have shared a list of vacant properties available. Although the council doesn’t have any suitable alternative premises in its estate available immediately, we would like to understand the Foundation’s aspirations and requirements for a new site as we’re keen to assist as much as we can as it plans its next steps.

The Broadway Car Park has long been scheduled for demolition as part of the Nicholson’s Quarter redevelopment and occupiers were aware of this. In 2018, the council allowed the Brett Foundation to move into some then-vacant units at the site, under a temporary tenancy-at-will with zero rent, on the clear understanding they would one day need to vacant to facilitate redevelopment.

Unfortunately, it became necessary to firstly close, in December 2022, and then subsequently agree to demolish the car park sooner than anticipated for safety reasons. We have now confirmed a start date for the work and, unfortunately, this means we’ve had to provide notice to the Foundation.
