Students and teachers are now using a new Sixth Form Centre, recently opened at Windsor Girls’ School, as part of the Royal Borough’s ongoing investment to meet demand for school places.

The £3.6m investment includes six new high-quality classrooms at the front of the school, along with two all-weather sports pitches, and increases the number of students admitted in each year group from 208 to 230 pupils.

The Royal Borough’s Property Company delivered the project on behalf of Achieving for Children, the council’s children services partner, with the team working closely with the school to ensure the new facilities met their requirements.

In recent years, expansion works have also taken place at Windsor Boys’ School, Dedworth Middle School, Cox Green School, Furze Platt Senior School, Charters School and St Peter’s Middle School, following a phase on investment in primary and first schools.

With funding from Government, the council itself and infrastructure contributions from developers, the expansion of these secondary schools followed on from expansion of primary schools, responding to a bulge in pupils flowing through the education system.

Councillor Amy Tisi, Cabinet member for children’s services, education and Windsor, said: “We’re so proud to have high quality comprehensive schools in the Royal Borough, which provide a fantastic education to help local young people get the best start in life.

“This great new Sixth Form Centre is part of our ongoing work to ensure there’s sufficient capacity to meet projected demand for pupil places where it’s needed, and I’m so pleased to see it completed and in use by the students and teachers.

“The council has a legal duty to ensure there are sufficient school places to meet demand, and this is an important part of our ongoing investment in schools and our children’s future.”

Peter Griffiths and Eimear O’Carroll, the co-headteachers, were thrilled to open the new facilities in September.

They said: “To start the academic year with this brand new building was an amazing start to the year. Our students are thoroughly enjoying the new space. We now have a first-class facility to house our first-class teaching and learning.”

The main contractor for the project was Management and  Construction Services Ltd (MCS) and the lead architect was Edgingtons.
