Online resources - local history

Table of Contents

The Library and Resident Services subscribe to a wide range of online resources.  A number of them are particularly useful for family and local history research:

Ancestry

Ancestry is an excellent web resource which can help you trace your family history by using, amongst other, English, Scottish and Welsh census records from 1841 to 1911, birth, marriage and death records and UK parish and probate records. (Available on library computers only).

Oxford Dictionary of National Biography (ODNB)

ODNB is a useful resource to research important local figures in British history.
It is searchable by people and also at town, village and street level. Full text searches can be carried out revealing people associated with the area - Maidenhead, Ascot, Cookham, Cox Green, Datchet, Sunninghill, Eton and Windsor.  Please click the following links for information on Local History and the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography. These sites can be accessed on our public computers and also remotely by library members logged in with their library card numbers.

Times Digital Archive (TDA)

TDA is a full-image online archive of every page published by The Times from 1785 to 2019. It includes every headline, article, illustration, advertisement and classified advertisement. Searches can be limited to certain dates or periods, and / or to certain sections of the paper. TDA can be accessed on our public computers and remotely by library members logged in with their library card numbers.
