We process special category data on the following legal basis:

UK GDPR Article 9(2)(g) (a) – processing is necessary for reasons of substantial public interest on the basis of Section 10(3) and para 8 (equality of opportunity or treatment), Part 2 Schedule 1, Data Protection Act 2018.

How we collect your personal information

We may collect your personal information, by phone, face to face, paper and electronic methods such as email or online forms.

Equality monitoring may include the following categories of personal information:

  • Religion or belief
  • Disability 
  • Sexual orientation
  • Additional categories include caring responsibilities, postcode, relationship status and if you have been a victim of a crime.

How we use the information provided

Equality data is collected from members of the public including Council residents, our staff and contracted service providers in order to comply with the law, help monitor fairness and effectiveness of the services we deliver, employment practices and develop future policies and services.

In order to comply with our legal obligations, under the Equality Act 2010 and the Public Sector Equality Duty however there are no personal identifiers contained within any published data.

We may disclose your information to others only where necessary to comply with our legal obligations in accordance with data protection legislation.

We do not store your personal information for longer than required by law.
