Apply for a licence for storing materials on the highway
Please read through the steps below before applying for storing materials on the highway, section 171.
Applications in all cases should be submitted at least 10 working days before the licence is required.
Ensure to keep the deposit under five metres long and two metres wide; minimum 15 metres between deposits.
There is an initial administration fee of £80 with fortnightly charges as follows:
- Week one-two: £150
- Thereafter: £250
You are required to submit:
- A minimum public liability of insurance document of £5,000,000,
- A site location plan,
- A road space booking and road closure (subject to required Traffic management) in addition to applying for this licence.
If the conditions are not adhered to, this will result in a £250 fine for each contravention.

It is an offence to store materials on the highway without obtaining a licence from the Council. Unauthorised storing of materials on the highway carries a fine of £500.
