Tree, wood and hedgerow protection

A TPO is made by the council to protect specific trees, groups/areas of trees and woodlands in the interests of amenity.

Tree Preservation Order (TPO)

An Order prohibits the:

  • cutting down.
  • topping.
  • lopping.
  • uprooting.
  • wilful damage, or
  • wilful destruction of trees without the local planning authority’s written consent (exemptions apply).
