Small electrical items and batteries collections

Decorative imageYou can put one small carrier bag of electrical items on top of or alongside your recycling bin on collection day. They are collected in a cage on the underside of the vehicle and kept separate from the rest of your recycling. 

Please remove any batteries and place these in a separate bag for recycling - cables and plugs can be attached.

Important: please do not put the bagged items in your recycling bin, as it won't be emptied.

The items we collect include: 

  • Kettles
  • Toasters
  • Irons
  • Laptops
  • Keyboards
  • Small lamps
  • Hair dryers/shavers
  • Digi boxes
  • Electric toothbrushes
  • Food processors/blenders
  • Calculators
  • Cameras
  • Chargers
  • Power tools

We cannot collect the following items but they can be recycled at the tip:

  • Any item too large for a carrier bag
  • TVs and PC monitors
  • Microwave ovens
  • Vacuum cleaners
  • Fluorescent tubes and light bulbs
  • Ink cartridges and toners 
  • Fridges/freezers
  • Washing machines
  • Dish washers
  • Cookers
  • Glass or ceramic electrical items (e.g. slow cookers or glass kettles) 
  • Car batteries

Please note: All plastic bags collected will be processed and sent to our energy waste plant and turned into electricity.

All electrical items will be either reused or recycled and the various raw materials used to make new products such as the zinc in mobile phones used for galvanising railings and lamp posts and the gold found in games consoles used to make new jewellery.
