Trees next to highways

The owner of a tree or hedge growing next to a road or footpath has a duty to prune it to prevent it causing an obstruction to pedestrians and vehicles. 

Normally 5.3m clearance is required directly over an adopted road and 2.5m clearance over the pavement or footpath.
