Housing benefit and council tax support

If you pay rent and/or Council Tax for your home and you live on a low income, you may be eligible for some help by claiming benefit.

If you are on a low income and paying either rent and/or Council Tax, you may be entitled to Housing Benefit, Council Tax Support or Second Adult Rebate.

Local Housing Allowance

Your Housing Benefit will be based on the number of bedrooms required, not on the size of the property you live in.

Non-dependant information

A 'non-dependant' is someone aged 18 or over, for example an adult son or daughter, a relative or even a friend who lives with you on a non-commercial basis.

Discretionary housing payments

Discretionary Housing Payments (DHP's) are intended to provide short-term financial assistance.

Universal Credit

Universal Credit supports people who are on a low income or out of work.
