Using buses in the borough
Buses are an easy and affordable way to travel around our borough, whether it be that you’re travelling for work or personal circumstances. With over 800 bus stops around the borough this will mean you can do this quickly and efficiently.
Most of our services run every 30 minutes or every hour.
Most bus routes charge only £2 per journey of any length. If you are over 65 you can apply for a concessionary bus pass which means you can travel around our borough for free.
Planning your bus journey
You can plan your bus journey from start to finish with Traveline, or alternatively see a list of all bus routes in the borough.
You can also check for any disruptions to your journey via the live time screens at certain bus stops, on bus operator websites, on apps and with QR codes at some of our bus stops.
When you're at the bus stop and getting on the bus
- Our stops also display printed timetables, and some have digital live time boards, please be mindful that sometimes the weekly timetable differs from the weekend timetables.
- It is important for you to make yourself visible and close to the stop so you can indicate to the driver that you would like to board the bus by holding out your hand
- Please allow customers that are already on the bus space to get off the bus before you start to board.
When you're on the bus
- Please advise the driver what destination you would like to travel to, most of our bus operators offer payment in the way of cash, card or contactless payments, please remember to keep your valid ticket with you until the end of your journey.
- Our drivers are very friendly and knowledgeable so if you have any questions regarding a route or a bus time, they will be happy to assist you. Please remember to be kind to our drivers as they play a vital role in keeping our borough moving.
- Our buses have wheelchair access for you to board our buses, they have wheelchair spaces which are always prioritised for wheelchair and mobility scooter users. The space can be shared with people that require a pram.
- Please look up and offer your seat to anyone who may need this more than you.
Getting off the bus
- The next stop information is announced on many of our buses to help you know when your stop is next.
- Press the bell before your stop to give the driver plenty of notice that you would like to get off the bus.
- Please take care when stepping down off the bus and always look out for cyclists and pedestrians before alighting the bus.
- If you get home and realise you have left something on the bus, please contact the bus operator that you travelled with to see if they can locate this for you.
