Brownfield registers and maps

Sites must meet specific criteria set out in the legislation before we can include them on the register.

The Government, through The Town and Country Planning (Brownfield Land Register) Regulations 2017 (legislation.gov.uk), requires all Local Authorities to produce and regularly update a register of previously developed sites (otherwise known as Brownfield Land) within their areas that are capable of being re-developed or converted to provide housing-led development.

Sites must meet specific criteria set out in the legislation before we can include them on the register.

The Register has two parts.

Part 1

Comprises a list of brownfield sites that are considered suitable for housing regardless of their planning status.

Please note, adding a site to Part 1 of the register does not mean it will automatically be granted permission in principle.

Part 2

Only includes sites from Part 1 that have been granted permission in principle.

Please note, no sites have been included on Part 2 of the register at this time.

This data is provided under the Open Government Licence.
