Windsor Guildhall Museum is reopening its doors this month, welcoming residents and visitors back into one of the Royal Borough’s most iconic buildings — now with even more to discover, explore and enjoy.
Following upgrades to layout and displays, the much-loved Windsor Guildhall Museum is set to reopen on Sunday 28 June. Visitors will be able to enjoy a huge range of improvements that show off Windsor’s long and rich history.
Improvements inside the Grade I listed building include new objects on display showcasing Windsor Guildhall’s royal history, a more accessible layout and a free audio guide to learn even more. With the support of volunteers and Friends of the Museum, opening hours have been extended to allow visitors to enjoy the museum on Sundays in addition to its regular days on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Admission will remain free for residents with the digital Advantage Card with a small entry fee for non-residents, donations are welcome.
Additionally, for the first time ever, visitors will be able to visit both the museum and Guildhall itself – including the Ascot Room where King Charles and Queen Camila were married in 2005! The historic upper floor also features exclusive original portraits and other features from its long-standing connection to the Royal family.
The work has been funded through Arts Council England’s Museum Renewal Fund, awarded for Windsor Guildhall Museum’s ‘Celebrating our Royal History’ project – aimed at highlighting the town’s royal connections and history of significant events.
Cabinet Member for Children's Services, Education and Windsor, Cllr Amy Tisi, said: “Windsor Guildhall Museum is truly one of the jewels of our borough and I’m delighted to welcome visitors back through its doors this month.
“We know how eagerly people have been waiting, and we’re proud to offer greater access to the Guildhall’s incredible history than ever before. This work is about celebrating our community, preserving our shared story and ensuring this treasured place continues to inspire for generations to come.”
With more than 13,000 objects in its care, Windsor Guildhall Museum holds one of the most fascinating collections in the borough. Residents, businesses, and visitors who want to support this work can sponsor one of over 40 specially selected items, helping to fund the museum’s essential conservation and day to day operations. Sponsors also enjoy exclusive perks, including an invitation to the museum’s annual Gala at Windsor Guildhall.
