Brownfield registers and maps

The Government, through The Town and Country Planning (Brownfield Land Register) Regulations 2017 (, requires all Local Authorities to produce and regularly update a register of previously developed sites (otherwise known as Brownfield Land) within their areas that are capable of being re-developed or converted to provide housing-led development.

Sites must meet specific criteria set out in the legislation before we can include them on the register.

The Register has two parts.

Part 1

Comprises a list of brownfield sites that are considered suitable for housing regardless of their planning status.

Please note, adding a site to Part 1 of the register does not mean it will automatically be granted permission in principle.

Part 2

Only includes sites from Part 1 that have been granted permission in principle.

Please note, no sites have been included on Part 2 of the register at this time.

This data is provided under the Open Government Licence.

For more information about the register, or to nominate a brownfield site, please contact the Planning Policy Team or visit Brownfield land registers - GOV.UK.
