Recycling points and centres

All domestic waste is accepted at Stafferton Way HWRC.

Items accepted for recycling

Please ensure any food appliances are emptied of all food. Any units received that contain food or contamination may be rejected.

• Aluminium and plastic coffee pods.
• Batteries - household.
• Cardboard and paper.
• DVDs.
• Fluorescent tubes and electrical bulbs.
• Green garden waste.
• Glass.
• Hardcore and soil.
• Large electrical items such as washing machines, fridges, and other large kitchen appliances.
• Metal.
• Mobility aids – crutches, walking frames (please check if you can return to the NHS first).
• Motor oil.
• Paint.
• Paper and card.
• Plastic (except plastic bags and film).
• Scrap metal.
• Small electrical items such as toasters, microwaves, irons, hairdryers, vacuum cleaners and other small household electricals.
• Television and computer display screens.
• Textiles and shoes.
• Vapes.
• Wood.

We can accept the following items, but they cannot be recycled

• Bulky items such as furniture and large toys.
• Car batteries.
• Carpets.
• Chemicals.
• Gas cylinders – always hand to a member of staff.
• Hard plastics.
• Mattresses.
• Plasterboard.
• Asbestos and Artex Coated Plasterboard – this must be double wrapped and labelled asbestos waste. Please use a red inner bag with asbestos warnings and a clear outer bag. Alternatively wrap in suitable polythene sheeting (1000-gauge) and label accordingly. No more than three sheets (e.g.2m x 1m) or sacks of cement bonded asbestos can be taken to Stafferton Way. Avoid breaking up large pieces of asbestos waste.

Home improvements

If you are carrying out your own home improvements, we can accept the equivalent of one car boot load (six sacks) per trip, per month.

Excluded waste streams that cannot be accepted

We cannot accept excluded items under any circumstances, and anyone bringing these to the site will be asked to take them away with them.

• Car tyres.
• Clinical waste.
• Demolition and construction including Celotex or any other insulation.
• Hazardous waste.
• Ink and toner cartridges.
• Lithium fridges.
• Loft insulation and Celotex.
• Oils.
• UPVC windows and door frames.

Gas cylinders

Gas cylinders should never be put into rubbish or recycling bins as there is a high risk of fire if the cylinder is crushed or punctured. You should always approach the supplier of the gas cylinder first, before bringing it to Stafferton Way HWRC.  

Gas cylinders, including helium and fast gas cannisters, should always be handed to a member of staff at the site for safety.
