Rural rate relief

Certain types of properties in a designated rural area with a population of less than 3000 may be entitled to a rates reduction.

The current designated rural area with the borough for 2023/2024 are:

  • Bisham
  • Cookham
  • Cookham West
  • Oakley Green and Fifield
  • Hurley North
  • Hurley South
  • Shottesbrooke
  • Waltham St Lawrence
  • Littlewick Green
  • White Waltham and Paley Street 
  • Woodlands Park
  • Park West
  • Eton
  • Eton Wick
  • Horton
  • Great Park
  • Ascot East
  • Cheapside

The property must be occupied and must also be the only general store, post office or a food shop, where rateable value is less than £8,500 or the only public house or petrol station with a rateable value less than £12,500.

The council also has discretion to award further relief on the remaining bill (up to 100%) on other types of properties within the area that have a rateable value of less than £16,500 and where the property is used for purposes that is of benefit to the local community.
