Business rate relief

Small businesses with a rateable value of under £15,000 may be eligible for a reduction in rates.

If your business is experiencing severe hardship you may be able to receive up to 100% rates relief.

Discretionary rate relief is part funded by the council and so the interest of council tax payers will be taken into consideration.

Business rates are not payable for the first three months that a property is empty.

A ratepayer is liable for the full non-domestic rate whether a property is wholly occupied or only partly occupied.

Certain types of properties in a designated rural area with a population of less than 3000 may be entitled to a rates reduction.

To help those businesses facing large increases and to limit the amount that rates can decrease the Government introduced the Transitional Relief Scheme.
