Bray Borough ward by election: September 2026
Following the recent death of Cllr Leo Walters the Returning Officer has received a request to hold an election to fill the vacancy. Legislation states that an election must be held within 35 working days of receiving the request for an election. The Returning Officer has set the date as Thursday 24 September 2026.
The nomination period for candidates to complete the Nomination paperwork and put themselves forward commences on Wednesday 19 August 2026 and the deadline is 4pm Thursday 27 August 2026. Details on how to obtain a nomination pack and how to deliver it are given in the Notice of election below. The Notice of Election also details some other important dates in the timetable leading up to polling day, for both candidates, their agents and residents of the Borough.

Register to vote
If you have recently moved and are not registered to vote then applications must be received by 11:59pm on Tuesday 8 September 2026. These can be submitted via http://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

If the application form does not reach us on Tuesday 8 September 2026 then you will not be added for the election but will be added, if the application is verified, for the next regular monthly update.
Please note that the Annual Canvass of properties in the Borough, has just started. If your details are not on the forms or showing in the online response service then you will need to follow the instructions on those services to inform us of changes to the residents at an address and also complete the application at the http://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote website.
Postal votes
Applications, amendments or cancellations of postal votes must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at the address shown below by 5pm on Wednesday 9 September 2026. To cancel or amend an existing arrangement you should email to electoral.registration@rbwm.gov.uk.
To apply, if you are not already voting by post then the quickest way to do this is to apply to vote online on the GOV.UK website.
If you are unable to complete the application online you can download a paper form from that website or you will need to contact our helpline on 01628 683868 or email electoral.registration@rbwm.gov.uk for a paper form to be posted out to you. However, if you only apply a few days from the deadline you may not receive a paper form from us via the post.

You should receive your by-election postal vote pack about the Tuesday 15 September 2026.
If you have not received it in time, you can get a replacement up to 5pm on polling day and are likely to have to come to the Town Hall in Maidenhead to collect it, depending on when you report to us that you have not received it.
Vote by Proxy
If you cannot go to the polling station and do not wish to vote by post, you may be able to vote by proxy. This means allowing somebody you trust to vote on your behalf.
To vote by proxy you will need to complete and return an application. You can also apply online on the GOV.UK website.
Completed applications for this election must arrive by 5pm on Wednesday 16 September 2026.
When you apply for a proxy vote you must say why you cannot vote in person. There is a specific paper form for different reasons.
Anyone can be your proxy as long as they are on the Electoral Register, eligible to vote at local elections and are willing to vote on your behalf at your polling station. You will need to tell them how you want to vote.
