Building Control introduction

The Building Control service exists to ensure that buildings are designed and constructed in accordance with the Building Regulations and Associated Legislation.

We are a member of Local Authority Building Control (LABC) - Delivering impartial and professional building control services throughout England and Wales.

The Building Regulations are a national set of regulations made under the powers of the Building Act 1984. They provide Building Control - Technical Guidance Notes through Approved Documents, which ensure a minimum standard of design and construction for new buildings, alterations and extensions.

These are the standards:

• safeguard the health and safety of persons in and around the buildings;
• conserve energy through insulation, and control usage;
• provide access and facilities for disabled persons.
