“The government must urgently reconsider the impacts on councils who have been unfairly hit by the Fair Funding Review.impact of Fair Only last week, the former Secretary of State for local government, Steve Reed, acknowledged that ‘dramatic shifts' in councils' finances resulting from the Fair Funding Review should have been avoided. The Royal Borough is set to lose nearly £30m a year which will result in an even more severe funding gap for us.”
“We have worked hard to strengthen governance, restore financial discipline and improve the council’s financial position – progress that has been recognised by both government and through independent scrutiny, and we remain committed to continuing that journey. We had a credible plan that would have returned us back to financial sustainability, but that plan has been derailed by a further £30m budget reduction imposed by government. The new government must think again and I have today written to the new Secretary of State for Local Government setting out the Royal’s Borough’s case and asking for an immediate re-think of how we are funded."
