Cllr Walters was first elected to the Royal Borough in 1974 and had represented the Bray ward for more than 50 years. Cllr Walters remained committed to representing the residents of Bray, Holyport, Oakley Green and Fifield throughout his many years of public service.
During his time as a councillor, Cllr Walters served as Mayor of the Royal Borough on two occasions, served as a member of Bray Parish Council for many years, as well as also serving for Cookham Rural District Council. He brought considerable professional experience to his work, having qualified as both a chartered surveyor and a barrister, as well as having served in the army.
He was a dedicated councillor who cared deeply about the communities he represented. Over more than five decades, he built up an extensive knowledge of the area and its residents and was committed to helping people with the issues and concerns they brought to him.
Leo's passing marks the end of an exceptional period of public service. Few councillors can match the length of his service, and his contribution to local government and to the Royal Borough will be remembered for many years to come.
Our thoughts are with Leo’s family and friends, and with his fellow councillors and all those who worked with him during his long and distinguished service to the Royal Borough.
Royal Borough pays tribute to Cllr Leo Walters
