The Local Transport Delivery Plan outlines proposals for transport and highway investment across the Royal Borough through to March 2030. The programme includes projects designed to support the council's ambition to build a cleaner, greener and safer borough by:
- Increasing rates of walking by 50% and cycling by 75% by 2031.
- Safely and securely managing our network of 603km.
- Ensuring that 70% of homes without driveways are within a five-minute walk of a public electric vehicle charge point.
- Continuing to increase bus usage so that it is in line with levels seen in other Berkshire authorities.
The new plan has been developed following a long-term funding settlement from the Department for Transport, giving the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead greater certainty to invest in highways and transport services that better serve residents, businesses and visitors.
The proposals build on significant improvements already delivered across the borough including upgrades to traffic signals and pedestrian crossings, enhancements to bus services that have helped passenger numbers exceed pre-pandemic levels and a significant number of pothole repairs carried out so far in 2026.
Cabinet Member for Highways, Customer Services, Libraries and IT, Councillor Geoff Hill, said: "Our new Local Transport Delivery Plan builds on the significant progress we've already made towards creating a cleaner, greener and safer borough.
"By investing in sustainable travel options such as walking, cycling and bus services, while continuing to maintain and improve our highways network, we can ensure our transport system meets the needs of residents, businesses and visitors for years to come."
The Local Transport Delivery Plan is set to be discussed at a meeting of Cabinet on Thursday 16 July. Read the full report online.
