New strategy to support a healthier Royal Borough gets the green light

The Royal Borough has just launched an ambitious new ten-year strategy to help residents stay healthier, happier and more independent during the next decade and beyond.

The Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy, published this week, is a shared commitment between the council, NHS partners, as well as voluntary and community organisations to improve residents’ health across the whole borough.

The strategy has a clear focus on prevention, reducing health inequalities and supporting wellbeing at every stage of life. The strategy focuses on four key areas where partners will work together to deliver change:

  • Best start in life: focusing on school readiness, mental health and wellbeing, healthy weight, oral health and healthy adolescence.
  • Living well: covering cardiovascular disease prevention, oral health screening and immunisation and healthy behaviours.
  • Healthy ageing: promoting independence, screening and early intervention, as well as improving digital inclusion and tackling loneliness and isolation.
  • Healthy place: supporting environments that enable good health including active travel, healthy housing and health at work.

The new strategy has been developed in partnership with members of the council’s Health & Wellbeing Board including Frimley Integrated Care Board, Achieving for Children, Healthwatch, and the VCS Partnership. Following a public consultation with residents, the strategy has been strengthened to reflect what people said what matters most — including mental health support at every stage of life, and targeted stop-vaping support for teenagers.

Cllr Catherine del Campo, Cabinet Member for Housing Services, Housing Delivery and Health, said: “This strategy marks a significant step forward and is the result of collective effort shaped by our partners and residents. It recognises the areas of need in our borough and sets out how we can work together to improve everyone’s health and wellbeing while tackling health inequalities that affect our most vulnerable communities.

“Prevention and early intervention are key. By taking a life course approach, we can provide tailored support at the right time; to bring benefits that residents will feel for decades to come.

“Thank you to everyone who took part in the consultation as your feedback was vital in shaping a strategy that truly reflects what matters most to our communities.”
