At the Cabinet meeting on Tuesday 27 January, it was agreed to grant the lease to Windsor Allotments and Home Gardens Association, who will continue to oversee waiting lists, allocate plots and handle day to day management. This decision helps to provide long term certainty for volunteers and plot holders alike.

The association will also take responsibility for the water and day to day maintenance costs, currently met by the council.

The lease runs from Wednesday 1 April 2026 to Monday 31 March 2061 and replaces an expired agreement with the existing operator.

Cabinet Member for Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Leisure & Performance, Cllr Mark Wilson, said: “Windsor’s allotments are a much loved community asset run by dedicated volunteers. This decision locks in their long term future, keeps things straightforward for plot holders and gives the association the security it needs to plan improvements with confidence - while also reducing the costs for the council.

Chairman and President of the Windsor Allotments and Home Gardens Association, Michael Porteous, said: “Myself and all our allotment holders and home gardeners are extremely pleased we are with the granting of a new lease – which covers all of our allotment sites and bring us certainty.

“The allotments really are a community asset, many of the allotment holders have been tending their plots for a number of years and have benefitted from the healthy environment and outdoor exercise that comes with allotment gardening. The association is run entirely by devoted volunteers from amongst the membership, giving their time and expertise for the benefit of the association and its members.”
