Glendale commences grounds maintenance contract for the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead

Glendale has commenced the grounds maintenance contract for the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead.

The contract, valued at £2.2 million per annum spanning a potential 15-year period, started on Thursday 1 October 2026 and will see Glendale maintaining all parks, open spaces, cemeteries and churchyards, play areas, sports pitches and highway verges on behalf of the borough.

The award centred around Glendale’s significant green space management experience, with a focus on sustainability and social value designed to benefit the local community. The grounds maintenance service will bring many benefits, with transparency to residents through an online works programme, real living wage employment opportunities for local people with up to 9% of the workforce on apprenticeships in green space management, carbon neutrality through offsetting the 250 tonnes of CO2 produced annually, and a commitment to carbon reduction each year.

Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Leisure and Performance, Cllr Mark Wilson, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Glendale as our new service provider for Grounds Maintenance and are confident they will deliver a first-class service for our residents. With service innovation and a commitment to people, technology and the environment, Glendale's offer matches our ambitions to deliver a well-maintained, cleaner, greener and safer borough.”

Nick Brooks, Regional Director at Glendale, said: "It’s great to be working with the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead on what is one of the most prestigious grounds maintenance contracts in the UK. It has been clear throughout the mobilisation of the contract that everyone involved in the parks and open spaces, from Councillors to officers, members of the public and the transferring staff, have a passion for the parks and open spaces across the Royal Borough and a desire for improvements in standards, sustainability and excellent public service."
