Subject to completion, this will see The Crown Estate assuming direct management of Home Park Public, together with the King Edward VII, Home Park and Romney Lock car parks from 1 April 2026.
The move will kick start a much-needed programme of investment and enhanced maintenance to the park, sports pitches, pavilions, and car parks – building on the positive engagement that’s already happened with the Royal Borough, and the many sports and community clubs using the site, to ensure their feedback helps shape the work.
This investment in sports pitches and facilities will play a crucial role in enhancing health and wellbeing for borough communities, foster cohesion and drive local economic growth – encouraging people to visit, spend time and live in the borough.
As part of the plan, The Crown Estate has also agreed a one-off payment of £600,000 to the council, to support the loss of income from car park revenue on council budgets in 2026/27.
While this will mean the council will no longer have a role in the day-to-day responsibility and management of the park, it will continue to play an important role in shaping the new ‘masterplan’ for the site - helping to ensure it meets the needs of borough communities.
Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Leisure & Performance, Cllr Mark Wilson, said: “Our long-standing relationship with The Crown Estate has enabled us to work together on a plan that helps ensure a sustainable future for this key Royal Borough park, improve the facilities for our residents and visitors, while also reducing risk on future council finances.
“With increased investment set to improve the quality and user experience for both clubs and residents, this plan clearly supports our vision for a cleaner, greener, safer and more prosperous borough.”
Paul Sedgwick, Deputy Ranger of Windsor Great Park said: “We recognise the major significance of Home Park Public to many local groups in the community and greatly welcome the opportunity to work with them, and the Royal Borough, by investing in the development of all facilities to improve them, delivering an improved experience for all.”
