With demand for temporary accommodation rising considerably locally, also being felt nationally, the proposed Temporary Accommodation Strategy 2025–2028 focuses on action to address these pressures in the borough by increasing supply of cost-effective accommodation and reducing demand through better prevention.
Through action, including procuring properties with housing partners to enable residents to be in accommodation within the borough, nearer their family and support networks – the council expects to reduce spend on temporary accommodation, helping to also protect vital services and secure better outcomes for those in housing need.
This builds on existing work by the council to help residents at risk of homelessness access support earlier, by offering tailored advice and intervention to prevent crisis situations.
Councillor Catherine Del Campo, Cabinet Member for Adult Services, Health and Housing, said: “This strategy is a vital step in tackling the pressures we face in temporary accommodation and will help us to deliver better outcomes for residents.”
