Royal Borough to consult on proposals to ban catapults to protect people, property and wildlife

Residents are being encouraged to give their views on new proposals aimed at protecting people, property and wildlife from anti-social behaviour involving catapults.

The consultation proposes creating a new Public Space Protection Order, a common tool used to tackle antisocial behaviour, to restrict the carrying of catapults. This follows a number of instances of violence against wildlife, damage to property and threats of harm to people.

If introduced, this would give police officers and community wardens the power to challenge and fine anyone found carrying a catapult or slingshot – along with stones, pellets or ball bearings – with the intention of harming people, property or wildlife. It would cover Eton & Castle (including central Windsor), Old Windsor, and Datchet, Horton and Wraysbury.

The consultation runs until Thursday 8 January 2026, and asks residents whether they agree with the proposal, as well as helping the council to understand more about anti-social behaviour in the borough.

Cllr Richard Coe, Cabinet Member for Household & Regulatory Services, said: “We want everyone to be able to enjoy our borough’s amazing parks and public spaces safely and are taking residents’ reports around catapulting seriously.

“This measure would give police and wardens the ability to act quickly to confiscate catapults and similar weapons where they are being misused: protecting people, property and wildlife, is part of our wider commitment to a cleaner, greener, safer borough.”
