Many impactful projects have been financed by national funding and the Carbon Offset Fund, a ring-fenced fund established to secure contributions from developers to deliver carbon reduction projects. This includes a low-carbon heating system at the Guildhall, solar panels at Braywick Nature Centre, and energy improvements at Windsor Leisure Centre.
The council continues the transition to renewable electricity for all operations and secured over £3 million in central government funding to decarbonise its estate - cutting operational costs and improving public facilities.
The council is also in the top 10% of local authority areas in the country for greatest percentage carbon reduction, according to the latest available data, as well as having a 33.5% reduction in the council’s own emissions from 2018 to 2024.
A further £900,000 has been secured to support the rollout of 750 electric vehicle charge points over the next decade, reinforcing the borough’s commitment to clean transport.
Councillor Karen Davies, Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Biodiversity & Windsor Town Council, said: “We’re committed to creating a cleaner, greener, safer and more prosperous borough, where we work with the community to achieve a sustainable future. Our Environment and Climate Strategy, developed in 2020 with input from residents and stakeholders, continues to guide our actions.
“We’ve come a long way, but there’s still much to do. We know we can’t do it alone, and we ask for the continued support of our residents, community groups, including the Eco Action Hub and Wilds, and businesses to ensure we play our part in delivering a sustainable future.”
Helping to drive progress is The Climate Partnership, established in 2021 to unite residents, businesses, and community groups in tackling the climate crisis. The Partnership’s steering group includes representatives from business, academia, the voluntary sector, and youth council. In 2025, the Partnership was recognised as a national “best practice” example by Climate Emergency UK.
