Listed below is information on domestic abuse awareness training courses.

Domestic abuse awareness course

Domestic abuse is a key priority for RBWM. All frontline professionals have a role in identifying and responding safely. This course is a practical introduction to domestic abuse awareness for anyone working with adults and/or children in RBWM. Learners will be supported to recognise indicators, understand the dynamics of abuse and respond to disclosures in a safety, trauma-informed and effective way.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Understand the definition, dynamics and patterns of domestic abuse.
  • Recognise the additional barriers and experiences of marginalised or minoritised groups affected by domestic abuse.
  • Understand the extent, severity and impact of domestic abuse on adults and children.
  • Recognise indicators and warning signs that someone may be experiencing domestic abuse.
  • Understand the lived experience of victim-survivors, including the complexities and risk of leaving an abusive relationship.
  • Respond safely and effectively to disclosures, using trauma-informed and victim-centred approaches.
  • Identify local policies, procedures and pathways for support, including RBWM services and national help available.
  • Reflect on how this learning applies to their own professional role and responsibilities.

Target audience

Frontline professionals working in the RBWM area, including those in the public sector, voluntary sector or individuals who are new to the domestic abuse sector. The training is suitable for those working with adults, children or young people and is designed an introductory-level course designed for those with minimal prior knowledge of domestic abuse.

Domestic Abuse is an emotive and difficult topic. While the course is delivered sensitively, tutors cannot responsibility for any distress caused.

MARAC and DASH risk identification checklist course

MARAC (Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conference) and DASH (Domestic Abuse, Stalking, Harassment and Honour Based Abuse) Risk Identification Checklist course

Domestic abuse is a key priority for RBWM. All frontline professionals have a role in identifying and responding safely. This practical course is designed to help professionals working in the RBWM area to develop confidence in identifying, assessing and managing risk, using the DASH Risk Identification Checklist, and to understand when and how to refer to the MARAC.

Learning outcomes

  • Understand agency responsiblies for recognising and responding to risk.
  • Understand how risk is identified, assessed and managed in domesic abuse cases.
  • Use the DASH Risk Identification Checklist confidently and appropriately.
  • Know when and how to refer to MARAC, including the importance of proportionate information sharing.
  • Understand the role of the Independent Domestic Violence Advocate (IDVA) and how multi-agency safety planning works.
  • Identify local and national support services.
  • Reflect on how this learning applies to their own professional role and responsibilities.

Target audience

Fronline professionals working in the RBWM area, including those in the public sector, voluntary sector or individuals who are new to the role of Designated MARAC Officer (DMO) who may receive disclosures of domestic abuse. The training is suitable for those working with both with adults and/or children and young people and is designed as a follow on from the Introduction to Domestic Abuse awareness course.
