I am carrying out research into the costs of administering the current needs and means tests for adult social care by local authorities in England. I have previously written to you to seeking information on the costs of assessing the finances of individuals under the Care Act 2014 Regulations. Thank you for your assistance in providing the requested information.
I am now seeking information on the costs of assessing the care and support needs of individuals My intention overall is to generate national level data on:
- the number of people seeking adult social care provision who have received a care and support assessment nationally to determine their eligibility for social care.
- the number of people whose care and support needs are deemed to be eligible under the Care Act 2014
- the number of employees involved in carrying out a care and support assessment
- the average cost to a local authority in carrying out a care and support assessment,. financial assessment
I am sending this to all local authorities with adult social care responsibilities in England. In order to assist with this research please could you provide me with the following information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000:
1) - the number of people seeking adult social care provision who have received a care and support assessment to determine their eligibility for social care under the Care and Support (Eligibility Criteria) Regulations 2014 for the financial years: 2022/23 2023/24, 2024/25; 2025/6
2) out of the total number of individuals who received a care and support assessment how many individuals were deemed to have met the eligibility criteria set out in the Care and Support (Eligibility Criteria) Regulations 2014 in each of the following financial years
2022/23 2023/24, 2024/25; 2025/6
3) The number of FTE employed by the council in 2025/26 carrying out care and support assessments under the above regulations
4) The pay band for the FTEs employed by the council in 2025/26 to carry out financial assessments under the above regulations.
6) The average cost to a local authority of carrying out each assessment for the financial year 2025/6
