Information requested
1.    Please supply the name, job title, telephone number and email address of the commissioner with responsibility for mental health placements for adults aged 18 to 64, covering residential, nursing and supported living.
2.    Please provide the total number of adults aged 18 to 64 with a primary support reason or primary diagnosis of mental health funded by the Local Authority in long-term care – residential care, nursing care and supported living separately.  Please give an end-of-year snapshot (at 31 March) for each of 2022/23, 2023/24, 2024/25 and 2025/26, and the most up-to-date figure available for 2026/27.
3.    Please provide the number of new long-term placements made for adults aged 18 to 64 with a mental health need – residential care, nursing care and supported living separately.  Please give the number during 2025/26 (year to 31 March 2026) and during 2026/27 to date.
4.    Please provide the highest, lowest and average weekly rate paid for placements for adults aged 18 to 64 with a mental health need – residential care, nursing care and supported living separately – for 2026/27 or the latest year available, together with the average for 2025/26 for comparison. For supported living, please give the care and support fee only, excluding rent and housing costs, and please state the average hourly rate if care and support is commissioned by the hour. If you use weekly rate bands, please give these too.
5.    Please provide a list of providers of residential care, nursing care and supported living used by the Local Authority for adults aged 18 to 64 with a mental health need. For each provider, please give the setting (residential, nursing or supported living), the number of service users, and the gross expenditure, using the latest month available (or financial year 2025/26 if not), and state the month used.
Definitions
By ‘mental health’ I mean adults whose primary support reason or primary diagnosis is a mental health condition – for example schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, bipolar affective disorder, severe depression, severe anxiety disorders, personality disorder and eating disorders. Please count each person once, on a primary basis only, and exclude adults whose primary reason for support is learning disability, autism or dementia, even where a mental health condition is also recorded. Where you report Primary Support Reason, this is the ‘Mental Health Support’ category.
Settings: by ‘residential care’ I mean a care home without nursing; by ‘nursing care’ I mean a care home with nursing. Supported living may also be called Supported accommodation or Supported housing and is a housing scheme where housing, support and care services are provided to help people with disabilities live as independently as possible in the community. Please include only supported living where the provider is registered with the CQC to deliver personal care.
