Request

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, please provide the following information relating to publicly organised or council-funded Bonfire Night (5 November) fireworks and/or bonfire events in your local authority area, covering the years 2019 to 2026:

1. In each of the years 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026, did the council organise, fund, or part-fund a public Bonfire Night fireworks display and/or bonfire event? Please answer Yes/No for each year.

2. For any year in which no display took place, please state: a) The specific reason(s) given for cancellation (e.g. cost, COVID-19, safety, environmental/net-zero policy, anti-social behaviour, lack of staffing, or other — please specify); b) Whether the decision was described as a one-off pause or a permanent end to the event; c) The approximate cost of running the display in the last year it was held, if held; d) Any internal report, committee paper, or council decision record relating to the cancellation (please provide as electronic copies where possible, or refer me to where these are already published).

3. Is a council-organised or council-funded Bonfire Night fireworks display planned to take place in 2026? If yes, please provide the confirmed or expected date and venue. If no, please confirm whether this is a temporary or permanent decision.

4. If the council previously cancelled displays but has since reinstated or plans to reinstate them, please state the year of reinstatement and the reason given (e.g. change in funding formula, budget surplus, public demand).

If any of this information is already published (e.g. on your website or in committee minutes), please direct me to the relevant page(s) rather than compiling it separately, in the interests of efficiency.
