The BBC has reported that in the year 2000, local authorities in England, Scotland and Wales were ordered to draw up a list of potentially contaminated sites in their area and remediate those considered a genuine risk to human health.
I would like the following under the terms of the Environmental Information Regulations (EIR).
• The number of potentially contaminated sites identified by your council in 2000
• The number of these sites that were deemed high risk
• The number of sites inspected that had significant levels of contamination, but have since been remediated
• Details of the location of the potentially contaminated sites that were deemed high risk.
o This could be in the form of addresses, lat and long coordinates, or grid reference numbers.
I would like this information sent to me in an Excel friendly format.
In addition, I would also like to request, under EIR:
• The number of contaminated land inspections carried out per year by the council, from 1 January 2022 to 1 June 2026
• The amount of money currently allocated to contaminated land work in the council’s most recent budget
• The date of their last published Contaminated Land Inspection Strategy produced by your council
If any of the information I’ve requested is covered by one or of the exemptions under the EIR, please let me know and suggest alternative ways for me to obtain the information.
Further clarification 03/06/2026:
The BBC has reported that in the year 2000, local authorities in England, Scotland and Wales were ordered to draw up a list of potentially contaminated sites in their area and remediate those considered a genuine risk to human health.
I am requesting the number of potentially contaminated sites identified by your council as part of that process, from 2000 to whenever the analysis was conducted.
