The Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead hasĀ 41 Councillors representing 19 different wards. Following a local election, there can be various changes to political groupings and/or memberships of parties across the 4 year term. These various changes are outlined below.
Borough council elections are held every four years, with the next one being in May 2027.
From the 2019 borough elections onwards, the number of Councillors was reduced from 57 to 41 following a periodic electoral review.
Currently the Council's largest group is the Liberal Democrat group, who form the administration along with two independent Councillors who are members of the Cabinet alongside the other eight Liberal Democrat Cabinet Members.
The next largest opposition groups are the Local Independent group who comprise of Councillors from the Old Windsor Residents' Association and various Independent Councillors and then also the Conservative group. Both of which have seven Councillors in each group.
The Independent Alliance group has six members and has Councillors from parties such as the West Windsor Residents Association, the Borough first Independents, the National Flood Prevention party and an independent Councillor.
There is also one Reform UK Councillor, who is not part of a political group.
Seats on committees can also be given by groups to other group members, where they feel that their knowledge and skills will enhance the committee's decision making. This is currently the case on the Development Management Committees and the Corporate Parenting Forum, amongst others.
Below you can see the changes in the political composition of the council over the last few local elections.
