Registering your baby

Congratulations on the birth of your baby!

A birth can only be registered in the district where the baby was born. If your baby was born at home in the Royal Borough, you can book your appointment to register the birth online using the link at the bottom of this page.

It is a legal requirement to register the birth within 42 days. This is done by a personal visit to a register office in the district where the birth occurred. 

After giving the Registrar all the necessary information, you will be asked to check the record carefully and sign it. 

You will need to purchase a birth certificate, which will cost £12.50 per copy.

If your baby was not born at home in the Royal Borough, then please contact the Registrars in the area where the baby was born to make an appointment to Register the birth.

For example: if your baby was born in Wexham Park Hospital, Slough, please contact the Slough Registration Service; for a birth at the Royal Berks Hospital, Reading, please contact the Reading Registration Service; or for a birth at Frimley Park Hospital, please contact the Surrey Registration Service.
