Automated external defibrillator (AED)

Public access defibrillators (PADs) can be found in public spaces for example, community centres, shopping centres or train stations etc.

If someone has a cardiac arrest away from hospital, having a defibrillator close at hand can be of assistance in the lifesaving steps towards survival. The device creates an electric charge to shock the heart and help to establish a normal heartbeat, this is called defibrillation.

If you find yourself in this situation, in the first instance you should always call the emergency services on 999 and ask for the Ambulance service and be guided by them.

Listed below are some useful resource websites that we are aware of that has a list of known AED locations and information about how to register your defibrillator.

South Central Ambulance

South Central Ambulance Service currently runs a database for local communities, workplaces and schools to register automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and help save lives.

Once a device is registered with SCAS, the details are entered into their 999 call taker systems as well as smartphone and tablet app developed by the Trust – Save a Life.
