Hackney carriage fares increase

The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Hackney Carriage Fares Increase Section 65 Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976

On Monday 13 October 2025 the Royal Borough’s Licensing Panel agreed to increase the tariff for RBWM licenced Hackney Carriages with Tariff 1 being increased by 10%. 

The new tariff is set out in the schedule below.

If you wish to object to the increase, please send your objection by Friday 7 November 2025, either by letter to The Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead Licensing Team, Town Hall, Maidenhead SL6 1RF, or by e-mail to licensing@rbwm.gov.uk.

If no objections are received then the proposed increase will take effect from Monday 10 November 2025.

Tariff one
06.00 to 23.00
Tariff Two
23.00 to 06.00 and Bank Holidays 
and at all times during the Royal Ascot race 
meeting where the journey commences from the 
official rank at Ascot Racecourse
Minimum Fare:  £7.00
For the first 809 yards (739m) 
or part thereof: £3.30
For each additional 127 yards
(116m), 29.2 seconds or part thereof:  £0.20
Minimum Fare: £9.00
For the first 899 yards (822m) or part thereof: £4.95
For each additional 141 yards (129m), 32.4 seconds or part thereof:  £0.30
Waiting time
For each period of 29.2 seconds or uncompleted part thereof: £0.20
Soiling Interior of Vehicle £80.00
Soiling Exterior of Vehicle £20.00

Extra charge
Luggage: for each suitcase or large bag handled: £1.00

Extra passengers
When carrying four adult passengers only £1.00

For people carriers carrying five and above passengers a “b” tariff will apply

The b tariff is a 50% surcharge above the standard rate and is indicated in the Tariff display by the tariff number followed by a b (ie “1b” for Tariff One and “2b” for Tariff Two).

Some vehicles may display by the tariff number followed by a 6 (ie “16” for Tariff One and “26” for Tariff Two).

None of the stated fares will apply if the hirer at the commencement of the hiring expresses his desire to engage by time.

Where a hackney carriage furnished with a taximeter is hired by distance the driver is not entitled to demand and take a fare greater than that recorded on the face of the taximeter, save for extra charges authorised by the above table which may not be recorded on the face of the taximeter.
