Why can’t the bridge be widened?

Table of Contents

Although the bridge was previously two-way, the construction of footpaths to allow pedestrian access means this is no longer possible. The council is committed to providing sustainable travel routes for all, including those with a disability. These footways are part of the council's commitment and cannot be removed.

By restricting the traffic to one-way, this also reduces the weight on the bridge and improves traffic safety. These two factors are essential to maintain the structure’s condition and prevent serious incidents.
