Users of the new multi-storey Vicus Way Park in Maidenhead will have greater flexibility when using the site with the ability to leave after 8pm from this Friday (10 February).
The change has been made following feedback from residents and businesses, and vehicles will now be able to leave after this time, and throughout the night, providing greater benefits for commuters and residents, as well as increased parking options while the Nicholsons multi-storey car park remains closed.
Entry to Vicus Way car park for vehicles will remain closed from 8pm. From then the shutters and barriers will be down, but those at the exit will automatically raise for vehicles leaving the car park, before lowering again. Pedestrians will be able to access the car park via the pedestrian entrance on Vicus Way in order to collect their vehicles.
The car park’s opening time for vehicle entry has been amended slightly, from 6am to 5am, allowing users to park and have enough time to catch first trains.
Councillor Phil Haseler, Cabinet member for planning, parking, highways and transport, said: “Following feedback from residents we have made this change to provide greater flexibility at this car park to make it as attractive as possible to users and ensure that it meets their needs. I’m pleased that we have found a solution that, I hope, will give users the reassurance and confidence that they can leave their car at this new, modern facility, go about their day or travel to their place of work and be able to leave beyond 8pm if they are working later or socialising with friends and need this additional flexibility.
“Vicus Way, with its edge-of-centre location and proximity to the railway station, is intended for day commuters and town centre employees, supporting local businesses, freeing up other town centre parking for short stay use by shoppers, and providing an additional parking option for those using the Elizabeth Line from Maidenhead. I hope this change will be welcomed.”
Vicus Way, which is open Monday to Sunday, has 500 spaces over 10 levels, including 52 bays with fast chargers for electric vehicles to support the transition to sustainable travel, with the capacity to have further chargepoints added in future.
Charges apply from 9am to 9pm, Monday to Saturday, with free parking on Sundays. Day parking is via the RingGo cashless parking system, using zone code 37592. For more information, visit www.rbwm.gov.uk/parking
