Game on for the Windsor & Maidenhead Community Lottery

The Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead is this week launching the Windsor & Maidenhead Community Lottery, an exciting new fundraising initiative for good causes across the borough.

The community lottery is a great opportunity for residents across the Royal Borough to directly support, in a fun way, local grassroots good causes of their choice. Plus residents also have the chance to win cash prizes.

Leading community lottery management company Gatherwell is managing the scheme on behalf of the Royal Borough following its success running similar lotteries for local councils elsewhere, including in Bracknell and West Berkshire.

Good causes across the borough can register to be beneficiaries via the borough’s community lottery website. Registration is easy and free. Nineteen good causes across the borough have already signed up, with applications from five more in the pipeline. Those signed up include registered charities supporting a variety of causes including disabilities, active travel, and animals, as well as PTAs and other community organisations. Residents choose which local good cause they want their ticket sale contribution to go to when they buy their tickets.

Public tickets for the borough’s lottery go on sale on Tuesday 4 July, via the borough’s community lottery website shown above. From every £1 lottery ticket sold online, 50p goes to the local good cause nominated by the lottery ticket holder when they buy their ticket,10p to the Windsor & Maidenhead Lottery central fund, 20p towards resident prizes, and 20p for VAT and administration costs. This means 60p of all lottery ticket sales benefit good causes.

Draws will be held weekly on Saturdays, with the first borough lottery due on Saturday 29 July. A jackpot of £25,000 is up for grabs, along with prizes of £2,000, £250, and £25. To celebrate the borough’s first draw, for one lucky Royal Borough resident there will have the chance to win an additional special prize: for them and a guest of their choice to enjoy a luxury afternoon tea and indulgent spa session at the five-star Fairmont Windsor Park Hotel.

Councillor Joshua Reynolds, cabinet member for communities and leisure, said: “I'm delighted we’re able to announce the start of the new Windsor & Maidenhead Community Lottery. With 60p of all lottery ticket sales benefiting good causes, it is certainly worth signing up and helping to give local good causes a valuable boost to their fundraising, as well as giving you the chance to win great prizes."

Nigel Atkinson, Gatherwell's general manager, said: "We’re delighted that Gatherwell has been awarded the opportunity to deliver the Windsor & Maidenhead Community Lottery. We're looking forward to working with the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead to raise funds for many amazing, good causes.”
