Free new weight management support for adults

Published

If you’re aged over 18, live in the borough and have a body max index of 30 or higher (27.5 and above for selected ethnic groups), you can now access a new free weight management service launched this week by the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead.

Maintaining a healthy weight is crucial for both your physical health and mental wellbeing. If you’re overweight, you’re more likely to suffer from a stroke and heart attack than others of your age, as well as medical conditions such as type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers including breast and bowel. Weight issues can also link to depression and anxiety.

The new adult weight management programme, run by Everyone Health on behalf of the council, offers 12 weeks of support, a nutrition workshop, physical activities, plus options to better understand food choices to find tasty, small changes to help you lose weight for good.

Groups and one-to-one sessions are also available with friendly professional nutritionists. These sessions are fun and sociable, giving you the chance meet people who, just like you, want to get fit and shift those pounds for good.

The programme is designed to take a balanced approach to give you the tools to empower your behaviour change for good while also allowing you to track your progress with ongoing support every step of the way as you lose the weight.

Councillor Stuart Carroll, Cabinet Member for Children's Services, Education, Health, Mental Health, and Transformation, said: “In our Corporate Plan, we talk a lot about creating a sustainable borough of opportunity and innovation, where families and individuals are empowered to achieve their ambitions and fulfil their potential.

“Yet this is far more than providing the right economic and physical infrastructures. A healthy and happy population are also key, which is why weight management support programmes such as this are so important, supporting those residents who may need that little bit of extra help to achieve their goals.”
Emma Croghan Cox, Head of Everyone Health, said: “Everyone Health is delighted to be working to support the residents of the Royal Borough with their weight loss journey. We know that diets don’t work, so this tried and tested free programme is all about helping people to eat well and move more in a way that is comfortable and appropriate for them.”
