Maintaining bus services during Covid-19: March 2020 - August 2021
Bus services generate income from ticket sales. With fewer people travelling during the pandemic, many bus services would have needed to be reduced in frequency or suspended until disruptions to daily life were eased.
To keep buses running for the essential journeys people needed to make, the government offered financial support to bus services through the Covid-19 Bus Services Support Grant for the period Tuesday 17 March 2020 and Monday 30 August 2021.
In our borough, the bus routes supported were: 1, 4, 4A, 8, 15, 16, 16A, 238, 239, 305, P1, W1.
Over this period, buses on these routes travelled 767,295km in service, supported by £204,772 of Covid-19 Bus Services Support Grant from the government.
