Electric vehicle charging at home

Table of Contents

For residents with off-street parking available at their property, the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) offers the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme. This offers a grant of 75% (up to a maximum of £500) towards the cost of the purchase and installation of a charging point at your home.

For any grant application to be approved, OLEV require evidence of off-road parking, including vehicle crossover access. If you require a dropped kerb or 'crossover' to access your property, then you must ensure that this has been approved and completed before submitting your application to OLEV. Please see the dropped kerbs page for further information.

Electric vehicle users who do not have access to off-road parking must only charge their vehicle at a public charging point. To increase the take-up of electric vehicles, we are looking to provide on-street charging points in residential areas where properties have no off-street parking.

Request an on-street electric vehicle charging point

To help us identify the best locations for on-street charging points, we have designed a short survey to collect requests from residents who already have an electric vehicle or who are considering getting one in the near future.

We intend to submit a funding bid to the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) and hope to install the first charging points early in 2020.
