The Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead delivers its school transport service through Achieving for Children, a community interest company set up in partnership with the Royal Borough of Kingston and the London Borough of Richmond.
The School Transport Team is now operating a call back service only. Priority will be given to calls where the information is not available on the website or in our published policies and question and answer sheet.
From September 2017, students between 16 and 25 with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) will only be eligible for free home to school transport assistance if they can meet the following criteria:
- They are 16 to 24 years old,
- They attend the nearest school, college or other institution for education or training,
- They have a special educational need, disability or mobility issue that means that they cannot reasonably be expected to walk or take public transport,
- They are from a low income family (a low income family is defined as either the student or their parent/guardian(s) receiving either Income Support or the maximum level of Working Tax Credit), or
- They are a continuing student; that is they are over 16 and started their course before September 2017.

Please note - applications received after 1 July may not be assessed before the start of the new academic year in September.
- Transport will only be given to the nearest school/college offering their chosen course and only if it's beyond three miles from the home address of the student,
- You can only apply if you are a borough resident,
- If the student is not eligible for free home to school/college transport you may be able to purchase a seat on a council contracted school bus; please see the Pay for Transport page for further information.
From September 2017, students between 19 and 25 with an EHCP will only be eligible for free home to school or college transport assistance if they can meet the following three criteria:
- They are 19 to 25 years old,
- They attend a school or college offering the course being followed, are taking an apprenticeship or are in part-time education or training when employed, self employed or volunteering,
- They meet the National Eligibility Criteria for access to adult care and support and access to career support.
Information we will need from you:
- Student and parent/guardian contact details,
- School/college which the student will be attending,
- Low income details e.g. proof of receipt of working tax credits or Income Support - please note: we need to see entire letters showing eligibility for Working Tax Credit, not just single pages, if proof of low income is not attached to the application it will delay the assessment,
- Any disability, health or personal circumstances,
- Any special behaviour considerations,
- Details of their wheelchair (if they use one).
