Open space study

The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead submitted its Borough Local Plan (2013-2033) in January 2018 for independent examination.

In support of the policies and strategies contained in the Borough Local Plan, a qualitative and quantitative assessment of the existing and future needs of the community for the following types of open space that exist within Windsor and Maidenhead has been undertaken:

  • Public Parks and Gardens
  • Amenity Greenspace
  • Provision for Children and Young People
  • Allotments and Community Gardens
  • Cemeteries
  • Natural and Semi-Natural Greenspaces.

A methodology was adopted which is in accordance with the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) and its predecessor, Planning Policy Guidance 17 (PPG17). Some very small spaces (less than 0.2 ha and of limited amenity value) were excluded.

The study supersedes the Open Space Audit completed in 2008.
