Statement of Community Involvement

One of the key objectives of planning is community involvement. The Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) commits the council to a clear and consistent approach that actively involves people in planning and development. By setting out how the community, including local residents, groups, businesses and organisations will be engaged in the planning process, the council's decisions will be both effective and robust.

The SCI was updated in 2016.

To ensure efficient and effective community involvement, it is essential that the council is notified of people who wish to be consulted and that their details remain up-to-date. Please register on the council's consultation database.

The SCI contains a pro-forma which can be filled in and returned. A copy can also be downloaded from the relevant link.

For more information on how you can be involved in planning in your local area please visit the Online Consultation Portal.

The 2016 version of the SCI has been updated with temporary Covid-19 amendments. This follows the issuing of Government Guidance on  Wednesday 13 May 2020 which encourages Local Authorities to undertake an immediate review and update the policies where necessary so that plan-making and decision making on planning applications can continue. The updated amendments within the Statement of Community Involvement came into force on Tuesday 16 June 2020 and will apply until further notice.  This can be viewed below
