Battlemead Common is a 110 hectare open space to the north of Maidenhead. The site, which lies adjacent to the River Thames and is crossed by the White Brook, was formerly farmland and was purchased by the Royal Borough in 2018. Part of the site lies within Cookham Parish and part within Maidenhead Riverside ward.
Parts of the site are open to public access, including a footpath link to the Thames Path, while other parts are closed to public access in order to protect sensitive wildlife habitats.
The council has established a friends group, the ‘Friends of Battlemead Common’ to work with us on the management of the site; the group includes representatives from a wide range of wildlife and amenity groups, as well as Cookham Parish Council and local ward councillors.
A smaller ‘Friends of Battlemead Common Steering Group’ was established in 2021, which comprises of representatives from the wider friends group.
