For King and Country project is privileged to work in partnership with a variety of specialist organisations. Our partners enhance the wide variety of research and activities available free to borough residents and visitors as part of the project. We are indebted to them for their time, knowledge and expertise.

Maidenhead Heritage Centre

Maidenhead Heritage Centre, described by one visitor as 'a little gem', is just the place to explore this town's history, which stretches from before the Romans to racing cars, aeroplanes, Hammer Horror films and scandals at Cliveden. The town grew up when the first bridge was built across the Thames in 1250 and became a Victorian boom town when the Great Western Railway opened.

Windsor Local History Group

WLHG was founded in 1976 as Windsor Local History Publications Group. It was started by a small group of WEA students and tutors with the aim of fostering research in the field of local history and publishing the results.

Berkshire Family History Society

For family history research - and all genealogy interests in Berkshire and beyond.

The Wardrobe - the home of the Infantry Regiments of Berkshire and Wiltshire

The Royal Berkshire Regiment, with its Museum in Brock Barracks, Oxford Road, Reading, and The Wiltshire Regiment whose Museum was in Le Marchant Barracks, London Road, Devizes, merged in 1959 to become the Duke of Edinburgh's Royal Regiment.

We would also like to thank our committed volunteers and other organisations for the research they provided, bringing to life the stories of our lost heroes.

Research, provenance and sources

Throughout our research both professionals and volunteers have used several key sources to verify the names and factual information concerning names in the 'For King and Country' database and website.

In researching, we used a variety of sources, the most common of which are:

Subscription or individual payments may be required to access these sites:

Where a different source to those named above was used we have acknowledged this in the notes field of the database.
