Changes to your waste and recycling collections during COVID-19 Outbreak

Weekly bin collections resuming from Monday 17 August 2020

Weekly household waste and recycling collections will resume from Monday 17 August and we have taken the opportunity to review collection routes to make them more efficient and environmentally friendly.

These changes mean that for some residents, your bin collection day will change. All residents will be contacted with further information and confirmation of whether or not your collection day is changing, prior to Monday 17 August. All properties should now have received a letter to let them know about any changes that affect them.

The current routes were planned in 2005 and since then the council have seen an increase of 9000 homes across the borough, meaning that not all routes are as efficient as possible. The new routes will ensure that vehicles are travelling shorter distances incorporating the increased number of homes and spreading the workload more equally across crews.

Please note, the time of your collection may change so remember to put your waste and recycling on the boundary of your property by 7am on the day of your collection.  Collections may continue until 4pm.

If you have a garden waste subscription the collection will happen on the same day as your waste, recycling and food waste collection on the week you are due to have garden waste collected. As we are moving back to weekly waste and recycling collections, we will no longer be accepting additional recycling next to your bins from the Monday 17 August. Please make sure that all materials are inside your bin, with the bin lid shut.

We would like to thank you for your support as we make these improvements.  As with any service change, there may be teething problems, so we ask that you bear with us as we work to make sure your waste and recycling is collected in the most effective way possible.

We will work with our waste supplier, Serco, to make the changes as smooth as possible but while we do this, we need to let you know that for the first two weeks of the new service, we won’t be able to come back for any individual missed bins, so please don’t report a missed collection. If your bin is missed, it will be collected the following week.

Please note : If bins from your whole road are not collected, please leave your bins out and we will come back the following day to complete any collections that were not finished.

We're sorry if this is the case, rounds are being reviewed every day to ensure that lessons are learnt from any work that is not completed so that the same issues are not repeated.
